The National Institute of Fire Protection and Safety (NIFPS) successfully conducted training programs on NFPA 25 – Inspection, Testing and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems and NFPA 51B – Hot Work Safety on 23rd and 24th May 2026 at the Karachi Marriott Hotel. The programs brought together professionals from leading organizations, including Pakistan State Oil, Pakistan Refinery Limited, Soorty Textiles, United Energy Pakistan Limited, Atlas Battery, and Flintex Engineering Limited, as well as several private participants. Both sessions were highly interactive, providing participants with valuable insights into the inspection, testing, and maintenance requirements for water-based fire protection systems, as well as best practices for safely managing hot work in accordance with NFPA standards. The active participation and engaging discussions throughout the training significantly enhanced the attendees’ knowledge and practical understanding of these critical fire and life safety topics. On May 4, 2023, a refinery in California experienced an accidental release of a hydrocarbon mixture containing hydrogen sulfide (H2S) during pressure gauge replacement, due to the piping not being effectively isolated. An internal valve obstruction prevented full isolation, leading to the sudden release of toxic gas once the gauge was removed.
