The National Institute of Fire Protection and Safety (NIFPS) successfully conducted training programs on NFPA 25 – Inspection, Testing and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems and NFPA 51B – Hot Work Safety on 23rd and 24th May 2026 at the Karachi Marriott Hotel.
The programs brought together professionals from leading organizations, including Pakistan State Oil, Pakistan Refinery Limited, Soorty Textiles, United Energy Pakistan Limited, Atlas Battery, and Flintex Engineering Limited, as well as several private participants.
Both sessions were highly interactive, providing participants with valuable insights into the inspection, testing, and maintenance requirements for water-based fire protection systems, as well as best practices for safely managing hot work in accordance with NFPA standards. The active participation and engaging discussions throughout the training significantly enhanced the attendees’ knowledge and practical understanding of these critical fire and life safety topics.
We were honored to have Mahboob Ali Shaikh (Commandant, Federal Civil Defence Training School, Karachi) and Atif Hassan Siddiqui (General Manager, HSE & QA, Pakistan State Oil) as our Chief Guests. Both distinguished guests interacted with the participants, shared their valuable experiences, and expressed appreciation for the attendees' enthusiasm and commitment to professional development and safety excellence.
A sincere thank you to all participants, guest speakers, and supporting organizations for contributing to the success of these training programs. Together, we continue to strengthen fire safety, asset protection, and workplace safety standards across Pakistan.

The National Institute of Fire Protection and Safety prepared this vlog to explain the concept of Inherent Safety Design (ISD) and the strategies used to eliminate or minimize hazards at their source instead of depending only on protective safeguards. It emphasizes applying ISD principles during PHA, incident investigations, JSA, and other safety reviews. The key message is to look for safer design solutions first. Any identified ISD option should be evaluated through the Management of Change process to ensure it does not introduce new risks.

Inherently Safer Principles (Process Safety Beacon)
The Fire and Safety Excellence with NFPA Codes training was conducted from 28 to 30 January 2026 at NED University of Engineering and Technology. This intensive three-day program was designed for professionals seeking a strong, practical, and code-based understanding of fire and safety management, with direct alignment to NFPA standards.
Key topics covered included:
Fundamentals of fire science and application of relevant NFPA Codes,
Fire hazards and hot work management as per NFPA 51B; chemical and electrical safety management practices; fire detection and suppression systems with practical field insights; emergency management, incident command, and crisis leadership; and sustainable fire protection and long-term safety management strategies.
The session was highly appreciated by the participants for its practical approach, clear explanations and real world case discussions. Many shared positive feedback on the interactive learning environment and the content's direct relevance to their professional roles.

National Institute of Fire Protection and Safety prepared this vlog to strengthen your understanding of fire hoses and their critical role in firefighting operations. It explains friction loss in fire hoses, why it occurs, and how factors like hose length, diameter, bends, and water flow affect performance. The vlog also covers fire hose adapters, their common types, and how they are used to connect hoses, pumps, and hydrants safely and efficiently. This knowledge helps firefighters ensure effective water delivery during emergencies.

Fire Interview (Part 5)
National Institute of Fire Protection and Safety prepared this vlog to raise awareness about an incident that occurred due to the failure to use required PPE. On May 4, 2023, a refinery in California experienced an accidental release of a hydrocarbon mixture containing hydrogen sulfide (H2S) during pressure gauge replacement, due to the piping not being effectively isolated. An internal valve obstruction prevented full isolation, leading to the sudden release of toxic gas once the gauge was removed. The incident seriously injured one operator and was worsened by the absence of respirators and reliance on a plugged gauge that created a false sense of safety, reinforcing a critical lesson: PPE only works when you wear it correctly.
